Wat Khrueawan was established around 1821. Later, it became an abandoned temple. Then, Luang Pho Kaew embarked on a pilgrimage through the eastern region and eventually settled in a location within Chonburi Province. He undertook the task of restoring these ruins by collaborating with the local villagers until they were in a usable condition. As a result of his efforts, he named it "Wat Khrueawan."
