Wat Khrueawan
"Wat Khrueawan is a public temple under the Maha Nikaya Sangha, located at 349 Pho Thong Road, Makham Yong Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chonburi Province. It was built around the year 1821.
Luang Pho Kaew traveled through the eastern region and came to stay at a place in the city of Chonburi Province. In those days, Chonburi Province was still a dense forest filled with various mixed forests, and everywhere you looked, you would find only the vastness and emptiness of the sea. This was a result of the war during the period when King Taksin restored freedom. The temples that were destroyed had not been restored, and most of the villagers living in those settlements had limited education. Was it due to the good fortune of the people of Chonburi Province or not, that made the pilgrim pass this way? With his pure kindness, it gave him the idea to bury his kith and kin in that area, to understand the principles of the Lord Buddha. So he settled there.
Because of his trustworthiness, villagers in the area brought food to make merit. As for the villagers who were known for their magical items, when they saw Phra Rukkhamun, they had faith in his strange practices. Other pilgrims also had faith in him and went in to ask for talismans. When relatives and kith and kin came to see him, he invited them to welcome them with a Dhamma attitude because he had Dhamma as a gift. When someone asked for a magical gift from him, he gave them magical mantras, and what he gave was truly good. It consisted of magical mantras because when on a pilgrimage, you would carry many objects with you, and you might not be able to carry them all. You probably only had magical mantras. When he spoke, he gave according to the principles of filial piety as the Buddha taught by giving mantras and prayers and remembering the Triple Gem.
When kith and kin in that area developed faith, it caused him to begin restoring the ruins of an abandoned temple. With the cooperation of the kith and kin in the area, it became usable, and he named it "Wat Khruewan," presumably taking the vision that there were many vines covering it.
Khruawan Temple received Wisungkhamsima in 1939. The area that received Wisungkhamsima is 40 meters wide and 80 meters long.
(The above information comes from the book commemorating the 100th anniversary of Luang Phor Kaew's merit-making at Khruawan Temple. It was published by Phra Chonlatharmuni, the abbot of Wat Khruawan, on December 31, 1976, and printed at Chonlawut Printing House, Pho Thong Road, Mueang District, Chonburi Province.)"
In the days when various buildings were beginning to be constructed, villagers had to carry wood from the rainforest located just outside the city of Chonburi, which was not far away. Luang Phor Kaew could ask for strength from the villagers to help cut down trees and use the wood to build shelters. The villagers came together to assist one another in a caravan, utilizing cattle and carts. They had to spend the night in the forest.
Due to these circumstances, Luang Pho Kaew created Phra Pidta amulets made of lead mixed with mercury, which he distributed to the villagers who came to help. These amulets were meant to protect them, not only from black magic but also from ghosts. This specific model of amulet is known as Phra Pidta Lak Sung. Additionally, he created other Phra Pidta statues. The Phra Pidta amulets he created are considered the most coveted among amulet collectors.
